BLOG – Thought THE PATH TO IMPACT BEGINS WITH INNOVATION

As I write this, I reflect on the many remarkable experiences I’ve created over the past several decades across multiple continents, impacting millions of people worldwide.


From projection mapping in Ibiza to video set design for musicals in Beijing, to virtual reality surgical training design for Harvard Medical School, and AR-enhanced video game launches for Ubisoft, as well as projection-mapped set design for TED Talks+++ 


What has been the consistent ingredient?

INNOVATION.


To create a memorable experience, it must be unique enough to stand out from the everyday noise. According to the Human Chronome Project, there are collectively 190 billion unique hours of human experiences each day. That’s a lot of competition.


There is often a tendency to repeat what has been done before, especially if it was successful. Unfortunately, this leads to industrial stagnation and results in the experiential equivalent of a mirror looking into a mirror.


When approaching new clients, I frequently ask about their expectations and evaluate them on the INNOVATION vs. IMITATION scale. I assess how willing they are to explore new, bold ideas versus staying within the confines of what has been done before.


One example of leveraging a client’s bravery was when I was approached by the iconic fashion industry mogul Roger Gingerich to elevate his Fashion Film party during TIFF 2023. They wanted a high-impact activation that would excite attendees and leave them with a memorable, shareable experience. 


So, here’s what we did: we created the world’s first AR(Augmented Reality)-enhanced holographic photobooth — HoloPhoto B.
